Will Republicans try and steal the Michigan election for Donald Trump?

Donald Trump raised a bunch of eyebrows this past Thursday when he invited Lee Chatfield and Mike Shirkey, two Republican legislators from Michigan, to The White House on Friday.  Even though both Republican lawmakers have denied any role in trying to subvert the Michigan election for Trump’s benefit, they have failed to release any details about their meeting with Donald Trump and have only said:

“they have not yet been made aware of any information that would change the outcome of the election in Michigan and as legislative leaders, we will follow the law and follow the normal process regarding Michigan’s electors, just as we have said throughout this election.”

Since their return from Washington D.C., both the heads of the Republican National Committee and the Michigan Republican Party issued a joint statement on Saturday calling for a delay in the certification of the state election results for 14 days to allow for “a full audit and investigation of the states election results.”  One thing missing from this joint statement is why the Republicans only have issues with the voting irregularities in Detroit and not other areas that had more voting irregularities where Donald Trump won.  If the Republicans succeed at this ploy to subvert the election, they could use an obscure federal law in their favor.  The law allows for state legislators to appoint electors if the voters “failed to make a choice” on election day.  Legal experts claim legislators could pass a resolution saying the election was so marred by irregularities that the outcome could not be determined and then appoint electors of their own choosing.  If the Democrats allow this 14-day delay, then they are making a huge mistake and have clearly forgotten how shady the Michigan Republican legislature is.  One would just have to go back to the year 2012 when the Democrats were locked out of the capitol building while the Republican legislature and then-Governor Rick Snyder passed the “Right to Work” laws.

If Donald Trump succeeds in having the Michigan Republican legislature steal the election for him, all he will need is Wisconsin and Georgia Republican legislatures to follow suit and he will get a second term in office.   There is a reason why Donald Trump has been making so many baseless voter fraud claims for months and why he has sent Rudy Giuliani to several states to make similar baseless claims and file so many frivolous lawsuits, all of which are being thrown out.  If Donald Trump succeeds in stealing this election, a second term will be the least of this country’s problems.
